We’ll also look back at other greats to wear that day’s number, with special reverence to some of Texas’ best.

Today is 50 days until kickoff. No. 50 for the Longhorns this season will be worn by Michael Flanagan, a walk-on sophomore linebacker. We’ll also look at transfers from Texas on the Longhorns’ 2023 schedule.

Former Longhorns facing UT in 2023

Alabama: While there are plenty of Texans on the Crimson Tide roster, including Jamarion Miller, Jalen Hale, and Jalen Milroe, the only people who once donned burnt orange in Tuscaloosa are coaches. Bama special teams coordinator and OLBs coach Coleman Hutzler, who spent one season in Austin, is on Nick Saban‘s staff. Former Texas head coach Charlie Strong is part of Saban’s analyst staff.

Wyoming: No former UT player is currently a Cowboy, but former Texas defensive end and assistant coach Oscar Giles is on staff in Laramie.

Baylor: After spending some time on the Forty Acres and Utah State, Byron Vaughns is an outside linebacker on the Bears’ roster
