Today is 58 days until kickoff. No. 58 for the Longhorns this season will be worn by Lance St. Louis, a sophomore deep snapper.
Lance St. Louis season outlook
If the name Lance St. Louis doesn’t ring a bell, that’s a good thing. Most football fans only know of the deep snapper’s name whenever they botch a snap or something worse. The fewer times a long snapper’s name is said, the better it portends for their career.
St. Louis didn’t start the 2022 season out as the long snapper, with Zach Edwards holding those duties for the first three games. Beginning with the Texas Tech contest and through the rest of the season, St. Louis took over deep snapping duties on both field goals and punts.

While stats accumulated by Bert Auburn and Daniel Trejo don’t necessarily belong to St. Louis, Texas specialists wouldn’t have been able to do their job if St. Louis hadn’t done his. If St. Louis has another strong season, this is likely the final time fans will read his name until next year’s countdown.
Lance St. Louis as a recruit
St. Louis was ranked as the No. 2110 overall prospect, the No. 2 long snapper, and the No. 36 prospect in Arizona in the 2022 On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.
Recent player to wear No. 58: Brandon Hodges
Hodges spent two seasons at Texas after transferring from East Mississippi Community College. He played in 11 games and started nine times in 2016.
