74 days until Texas Football: The O-linemen Kyle Flood has put into the NFL

Inside Texas is putting a new twist on long-time photographer Will Gallagher’s time-honored countdown to Texas football kickoff. In addition to Will’s great pictures, the Inside Texas staff will go through every player on the roster by jersey number and offer a season outlook on each, from five-star to walk-on.

Today is 74 days until kickoff. No one has been assigned No. 74 for the Longhorns this season, so we will take a look at offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Kyle Flood and some of the offensive linemen he’s put into the league.
Kyle Flood’s professional proteges
Flood has coached at three different FBS institutions and has had his fingerprints all over the offensive line at each. Save for the four years he was head coach of Rutgers, Flood has held the title of offensive line coach throughout his Power 5 career.
Flood was the offensive line coach under Greg Schiano from 2005 to 2011 before taking over the Scarlet Knight program once Schiano left for the NFL. Flood remained with Rutgers until 2015. After he was dismissed, he joined Steve Sarkisian on Dan Quinn‘s Atlanta Falcons staff from 2017 to 2018. When he returned to the college game after the two-year stint in the NFL, it was as the Alabama offensive line coach in Nick Saban‘s program. Once again, he was matched with Sark.
Sarkisian was named Texas’ head coach in early 2021, and he brought Flood with him to Austin to oversee his O-line and help the Longhorns put more offensive linemen into the NFL draft.

Here are the offensive linemen coached by Flood across his college career that were picked in the NFL draft.
Rutgers
- 2007: Round 5 – Cameron Stephenson
- 2008: Round 3 – Jeremy Zuttah
- 2010: Round 1 – Anthony Davis
Alabama
- 2020: Round 1 – Jedrick Wills
- 2021: Round 1 – Alex Leatherwood
- 2021: Round 2 – Landon Dickerson
- 2021: Round 6 – Deonte Brown
Though Flood was at Texas in 2021 ahead of the 2022 draft, he coached seventh overall pick Evan Neal at Alabama in 2019 and 2020.
Texas has several candidates to join those listed above on this year’s team, including Christian Jones and Kelvin Banks. Flood hopes to put those two, and many more to follow, into the league. His track record at Rutgers and Alabama suggests it’s a mission he can accomplish.
Recent player to wear No. 74: Adam Ulatoski

Ulatoski played in 50 games at offensive tackle, starting 44 (28 at LT/16 at RT), during his five-year career on the 40 Acres. He was a three-time All-Big 12 selection.
