There is no question that last week’s win over Alabama reset expectations for the 2023 Longhorns squad, especially externally by national pundits and probably internally by some of the members of the team, who may have had lingering questions about just how good they could be, too.

So what’s next?

Now it’s time for Texas to prove that last Saturday was no fluke.

It’s time for Steve Sarkisian to prove that all this talk about improved culture, of getting over the hump, of better consistency, of a winning attitude and rightfully increased expectations, of a team that is ready to play with the big boys and compete for the Big 12 championship and possibly more – it’s time for all of that to reveal itself to Longhorn nation later today.

Of that group of tasks, one word kind of stands out when it comes to a game like the one later today against Wyoming.

Consistency.

It’s no small task in college football to be consistent each and every week. After all, we’re talking about 18-to-22 year olds. We’ve all been that age before. I think back to who I was at that time of my life, and about the best thing I could say is that I was often consistently inconsistent.

As we age, we learn that being consistently inconsistent will get you beat not only in life but also in college football.

What we need to see today is a team that is focused on the present, not the past or future, on executing its gameplan with precision.

The Horns have to shake off the cobwebs of last Saturday, and prove they belong among the top five teams in the nation. The only way to do that is forget about what you did last week, and hone in on the task at hand.

And that task is the Wyoming Cowboys, tonight at 7 p.m.
