The Texas Longhorns are once again hosting a NCAA Regional, this time as a #2 national seed. Let’s take a quick look at the teams headed to Austin this weekend.

#2 UTSA

Texas fans should be familiar with this opponent. Previously the two met for a midweek bout, a game in which UTSA won in extra innings. UTSA had an electric season and was honestly in a spot to potentially host a regional in San Antonio (they did not submit a hosting bid). They will face off against Kansas State in game 1 of the Austin Regional.

Overall Record (conference): 44-13 (23-4)
Pitching: A decent group led by Robert Orloski (2.92 ERA – 64.2 IP)
Hitting: SIX batters over .320, a very salty team offensively with six players over 10 doubles

#3 Kansas State

A return to Austin is in store for Dee Kennedy. The Wildcats are the only team in the regional that Texas has yet to play in 2025. Starting off 20-8 (including a VERY close game vs. LSU), Kansas State looked like a very dangerous team with a shot to potentially host. They will have a tall task against a dangerous UTSA squad.

Overall Record (conference): 31-24 (17-13)
Pitching: Nothing to really write home about… Jacob Frost leads the group (5.75 ERA – 61 IP)
Hitting: three batters over 1.000 OPS (all three over 11 HRs & 13 doubles)

#4 Houston Christian

Formerly Houston Baptist, the Huskies are once again headed to Austin to face off against the Longhorns. They stole a bid from an unknown team (maybe the Aggies?) after winning their conference tournament. This is a team that Texas should be happy to see in game 1.

Overall Record (conference): 32-23 (17-13)
Pitching: best pitcher… Parker Edwards (3.93 ERA – 84.2 IP)
Hitting: led again by grad-transfer Parker Edwards (.296 || 15 2B || 9 HR)

Overall this is what should be a fairly easy regional to win and advance to the supers where the Austin winner will face off against the winner of the UCLA regional.
