A refresher on Christian Clark and Jerrick Gibson
Sometimes it’s hard to have a firm grasp on what a player might bring to the table if they’re from out of state. As opposed to the guys who might be a 30 minute drive down I-20 or US 59, Texans aren’t typically traveling to Phoenix, Ariz. or Bradenton, Fla. to watch high schoolers.

Film helps, and that film often is an indication of what players like Christian Clark or Jerrick Gibson can be at the next level. Here are a few refreshers. I’ll probably have more on Tre Wisner later today or tomorrow.
Clark was the No. 335 overall prospect, the No. 23 running back, and the No. 6 player in Arizona in the On3 Industry Ranking. Texas lists him at 6-foot-0, 210-pounds.
His list of finalists included Oregon and Florida State. Here’s Ian Boyd’s high school on Clark: “Christian Clark reminds me of the last blue chip running back to come out of Arizona and draw Texas’ interest at running back, Bijan Robinson. He has some similar dynamism as a runner with some shocking lateral agility and the ability to stop and change directions on a dime. Backs like Clark can make most any scheme work because they can threaten multiple windows across the front at the same time, he’d be a slam dunk in the Texas offense.”
Below are Clark’s high school stats at Mountain Pointe.
Year | Carries | Yards | TDs | Receptions | Yards | TDs |
2021 | 80 | 352 | 7 | 5 | 41 | 0 |

Gibson was the No. 117 overall prospect, the No. 7 running back, and the No. 18 player in Florida in the On3 Industry Ranking. Texas lists him at 5-foot-10, 205 pounds.
He was once committed to Florida but backed off that pledge some time before going through his official visit process. Gibson visited Miami, Georgia, and Texas, then committed to the Longhorns. He took a couple of other visits to see the Gators but never backed off his pledge or gave Tashard Choice reason to worry.
Here’s Ian Boyd‘s high school evaluation on Clark: Gibson has some similar qualities to Texas running back Jonathon Brooks. He is very smooth with easy change of direction and plant-and-go ability, and is comfortable catching out of the backfield. He looks like he’d be very comfortable in outside zone, setting up his blockers before planting and cutting into the creases. He’s several burgers and lifts away from being a feature back but his frame and short area quickness suggest he could get there in time.
