Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell was named the Big 12’s offensive newcomer of the year, the conference announced on Wednesday. Mitchell is the first Texas player to take home the honor.

Mitchell was also one of three Longhorns selected to the All-Big 12 second team along with Jonathon Brooks and Jahdae Barron. Mitchell transferred from Georgia before the 2023 season and became a key part of the Longhorn offense.
This year, he set new career highs with 45 catches for 704 yards and a team-best nine touchdowns. Those nine touchdown receptions are good for second in the league. He was newcomer of the week three times this year following Texas wins over Alabama, Kansas, and Kansas State.
Mitchell, who hails from Missouri City, Texas, was one of the Longhorns’ biggest transfer portal pickups in the offseason. His presence on the team has created problems for opposing defenses, forcing them to choose between shading coverage toward Xavier Worthy and leaving Mitchell one-on-one or leaving Worthy by himself against overmatched defenders.
