All but two players 'good to go' ahead of Texas' training camp
When asked Thursday about players who might not be full-go for the beginning of training camp on Friday, Steve Sarkisian could only name two players in running back Gabriel Watson and outside linebacker Ben Davis.
Sarkisian said the super-senior duo would be limited at the beginning of camp.
“Neither of them are seriously out but we need to monitor them here early on at camp, which is important.” Sarkisian said. “Everybody else is good to go.”
Sarkisian did not disclose what was ailing Watson, who played in three games for the Longhorns last season following his graduate transfer from the University of Sioux Falls. The former finalist for the Harlon Hill Award, the Division II version of the Heisman, was a full participant during spring practices.

Watson rushed for 52 yards on eight carries in the 2021 Orange-White Game in April. He mostly saw action on special teams in 2020, but tallied 7 carries for 34 yards in late-season games versus Colorado and Kansas State.
Davis, a graduate transfer from Alabama, broke his toe in early July and was slated to miss some of August practice, according to Inside Texas sources. Shortly thereafter, sources relayed Davis could be a partial participant in Sarkisian’s first training camp as Texas Longhorns head coach. Davis spent five seasons in Tuscaloosa where he tallied seven tackles and one sack.
Texas begins practice on Friday and opens the season with Louisiana on September 4.
