Rodney Terry and the Texas Longhorns made a surprise splash out of the portal on Monday when Vanderbilt transfer Malik Presley, a class of 2023 product from San Marcos (Texas), committed to the Longhorns.

Presley played in 29 games for the Commodores before entering the portal. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per contest on 43% shooting from the field.

After Presley’s addition, Oklahoma State transfer Brandon Garrison is the top remaining target. Garrison has visited Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas. According to Garrison’s Instagram, a decision of some sort could arrive on Tuesday.

As far as the next spot on the roster? On3’s Jamie Shaw reported on Monday that San Diego State forward Elijah Saunders was contacted by Texas. Saunders, a 6-foot-8, 225-pounder from Arizona, scored 6.2 points and pulled down 3.6 rebounds per game in 20 minutes per contest. He shot 42% from the field, 32% from three, and 96% at the line.

Garrison’s decision is the next big domino for Texas men’s basketball in 2024-25. Where he ends up will determine what Texas elects to do next in the transfer portal.
