The world is starting to realize what Texas fans have known all along: Arch Manning is the truth. He won’t be limited by his last name, nor what you expect a Manning quarterback to look like. The next in line from football’s royal family brings his own unique skill set to the table. He’s not just a quarterback Texas fans will have for the next two years, he’s a future NFL star built to dominate the league for a long time.

Draft analyst Todd McShay just released his first full evaluation of Manning and came to the same conclusion many Longhorn fans already have. “Believe the Hype,” he titled it. Check out The McShay Report for a deep dive on 70 of Arch’s key plays from 2024.

“Two aspects stand out to me. First: This guy has it all, talent-wise. I’m not saying he’s Lamar Jackson as a runner or that he has Josh Allen’s arm, but Arch is tooled up. His combination of prototypical size, mobility, an excellent release, and his natural accuracy—it’s all there for him to be a great player. The ball snaps off his hand, and he’s both slippery and strong in the pocket, showing the ability to extend passing plays and break away from defenders in the open field as a runner.

And the second, more important thing: In that small sample, I saw a young player who was learning from his failures, progressing quickly, and loosening his grip on needing to be perfect.”

McShay reiterated what Inside Texas has reported all along: we don’t expect Arch to leave for the NFL after just one year. He views Manning as a member of the 2027 draft class. If that continues to surprise the uninitiated, it’s because they haven’t been paying attention. The Mannings always plays the long game. They prioritize process. It’s why they chose Texas and Steve Sarkisian in the first place. One season in Austin won’t be enough to accumulate the reps required for long-term success in the NFL, even if it includes plenty of individual and team accolades.

In that limited sample size, McShay saw the talent, tools, and coachability of someone on track to be the first overall pick. With elite talents like Jeremiah Smith also expected in that draft class, such praise carries weight. If Manning becomes just the fourth Texas player ever taken No. 1 overall, it will mean he’s left an irremovable mark on the Longhorns program.

Which is exactly what fans should expect him to do.
