Manning, a true freshman, came in for starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, who had helped Texas build a 50-7 lead over the Red Raiders at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
It’s the first career appearance for the much ballyhooed No. 1 overall prospect from the class of 2023.

Manning can appear in three more contests for the Longhorns in 2023 before his redshirt is burned.
In October, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian wasn’t exactly sure what his plan for Manning would be.
“Maalik’s going to start the game and go play in this game,” Sarkisian said ahead of the BYU game. “I haven’t made a decision if I want to get Arch in there just to get him in there or not, but we have discussed that some because I do think there’s some valuable experience for him in that. But, I have to make that’s in the best interest of the team.”
