COOK/NAHLIN: Army All-American Thread – Day 2

With only one commit playing in the Army All-American Bowl, our focus turns to Texas targets playing in this game, including one Tom Herman recently extended an offer to.

Jamire Calvin is a 5-foot-9 slot receiver from Los Angeles (CA) Cathedral. The four-star has already made a Top 4 and is planning to announce at the actual game this Saturday.

Even though Texas is not listed in his top four of Washington State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Alabama, the Longhorns are not out of it. With a Texas offer coming on December 16th and Baylor offering on New Year’s Day, Calvin could be making his way to Texas soon.

Calvin said if he used his fifth and final official visit, he would use it to take a trip to one of Baylor, Texas, or Oregon, who also just jumped into the ring. He spoke highly of both Baylor and Texas, and said both were definitely still involved in his decision.

With his impending nationally televised decision, I asked Calvin to take me through his top four schools.

On Washington State: “Air raid offense. They’re also a wide receiver’s dream. You can catch 100 passes. You’re for sure going to get the ball there.”

On Notre Dame: “It’s Notre Dame. It’s hard to turn down the tradition, the football, everything about Notre Dame.”

On Nebraska: “The relationship I have with the coaches. The offense that they came with from Oregon State.”

On Alabama: “You can’t go wrong with Alabama. You’re going to win a ring every year, basically.”

One note on Bellaire OL/DL Jayden Peevy

Peevy, an A&M commit, is also in San Antonio this week. He was all set to head to Austin for a Texas visit prior to the dead period, but canceled.

I caught up with him briefly after practice Monday and he said he is committed to A&M and is done with the process. However, Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State are still coming after him.

A&M is getting a good, plus-sized defensive linemen who could end up on the o-line.
