Currently the Longhorns have five Texas Exes enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Only three, Earl Campbell, Bobby Layne, and Bobby Dillon, are in Canton because of their playing exploits.
Campbell is the obvious choice for No. 1, and probably will be the popular selection. So if your No. 1 is the Tyler Rose, who is your No. 2?
“Bobby Layne, for sure.” – 78longhornjoe
“Tommy Nobis should be in the Hall of Fame. It might be him. Jamaal Charles and Earl Thomas eventually get in?” – nordberg
“Priest Holmes. No respect!” – PearlandHorn
“Probably Layne, although Tommy Nobis was good enough to be considered for this. His evaluation suffered because of the bad teams he played on.” – billu
“There are few here who have seen Bobby Dillon play but he was amazing, particularly when you consider the fact that he did it with one eye.” – _ut73_
“Because of personal accomplishments? Justin Tucker is the best kicker of all time. Jamaal Charles and Derrick Johnson are up there. Earl Thomas.” – horns91
“Justin Tucker” – fburghorn
“I wouldn’t sleep on Steve McMichael. Tucker has to be up there, and when it’s all over Dickson may keep the kicker theme going.” – motolove
“Best playing career – Layne had the longest career playing at a high level. Earl had the most dominant stretch where he likely was the best non-QB in the league for 3-4 years. Nobis had the best career that has been overlooked.” – stevehorn
“Also, Dan Neil played in the NFL for 8 years (7 years as a starter or valuable playing time) and won two Super Bowls.” – horns91
“Tommy Nobis. Number 60. No doubt. When you set a NFL record by making 294 tackles as a rookie, you deserve your seat.” – jb8083
