Barryn Sorrell has the burnt orange spotlight to himself at the Senior Bowl
Of the five Longhorns that accepted invitations to the Senior Bowl, only one Texas player has remained in Mobile, Ala. to play in Saturday’s exhibition: Barryn Sorrell.

Alfred Collins, Andrew Mukuba, Gunnar Helm, and Vernon Broughton all were slated to take part in “the path to the draft,” but for one reason or another they elected to pass on the pre-draft event and start preparation for the NFL Combine or Texas’ pro timing day on their own.
Sorrell stayed, and has recorded some quality reps during his week in Mobile.
“As a competitive player, I want to be the best,” Sorrell told Tommy Yarrish of the Dallas Cowboys. “I’m just coming out here to show that I’m a competitive player. I can do things in the run game and I can do things in the pass game. That was my main thing, just coming out here and showing these coaches that I’m a leader, I’m a winner, and I’m a competitor.”
This clip of Sorrell going up against LSU offensive tackle Emory Jones has made rounds as part of quality work for both players.
Sorrell checked in at the Senior Bowl at 6-foot-3.5, 253 pounds. His hand size was 9.5 inches, his arm length was 32.5 inches, and his wingspan was 77.875 inches. Texas listed Sorrell at 6-foot-4, 260 pounds during the 2024 season.
Playing as the Jack, a strongside outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski‘s system, Sorrell tied his career high in tackles in 2024 with 44, and posted career bests in TFL (11.0) and sacks (6.0). He appeared in 49 games in a Longhorn uniform and started 40, finishing his career with 132 total tackles, 25.5 TFL, and 15.5 sacks. He earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in 2022 and 2023.
During the 2024 season, Sorrell logged 651 defensive snaps and earned a Pro Football Focus defensive grade of 71.5. His run defense grade was 73.1, and his pass rush grade was 74.5. He was credited with 49 pressures, tops on the team.

It’s a quality draft as far as EDGE players go, with Nic Scourton from Texas A&M, Landon Jackson from Arkansas, JT Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer from Ohio State, Jordan Burch from Oregon, Abdul Carter from Penn State, Mykel Williams from Georgia, James Pearce Jr. from Tennessee, Princely Umanmielen from Ole Miss, Kyle Kennard from South Carolina, and Josaiah Stewart from Michigan all highly thought of.
From that group, only Jackson, Umanmielen, and Stewart are scheduled to participate in Saturday’s Senior Bowl.

Sorrell will have an opportunity on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. to bolster his draft stock and potentially earn a place in the other notable pre-draft event, the NFL Combine. He’s already talked to a number of teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, but he’s relished his chances in front of coaches from a number of NFL teams.
“I’ve been blessed to have some very good coaches,” Sorrell said. “They’ve been helping me and teaching me things. Greatness is in the small details, and they’ve been showing me a lot of different details. Very thankful to those guys.”

What he’s able to accomplish in Mobile on NFL Network could help him solidify his status as a draft pick as part of efforts to put a double-digit number of Longhorns in the NFL Draft for the second consecutive year.
