The day began with some buzz when On3 national recruiting reporter Chad Simmons informed readers that four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou was not only on campus but close to a decision. Initially, it was believed Mbatchou was heading to Tennessee for an official visit. However, by the end of the day, Texas had landed his commitment—a major win for the Longhorns.

Building Momentum: The Mbatchou Decision

Rewinding a few weeks, it was evident Texas had its sights set on a strong recruiting push. Insider chatter hinted that a key commitment was brewing. That speculation became reality as Mbatchou chose the Longhorns, mirroring the energy of a big football weekend in Austin. His addition bolsters Texas’ defensive line class, adding a dynamic talent to Pete Kwiatkowski’s unit.

Five-Star Targets and Key Visits

While Mbatchou’s decision was the headline, there was plenty more recruiting news throughout the day. Texas staff were active beyond Austin, with visits to major prospects like five-star defensive tackle Justus Terry in Georgia on Friday night. Though considered a long shot, Texas continues to pursue top-tier talent in its push for a top-3 class.

Back in Austin, current Texas commit Myron Charles made it to campus despite strong efforts from the Florida Gators to flip him. Charles’ visit was seen as crucial for solidifying his pledge, and there’s a growing belief that his trip to Texas may have sealed the deal in the Longhorns’ favor.

Speaking of Florida, Texas wide receiver commit Jaime Ffrench was back on campus. Like with Charles, IT likes UT’s chances to ultimately sign the extremely talented player from Florida

Misses and Surprises

Not all the news was positive, as LSU commits Zion Williams (defensive tackle) and Kade Phillips (cornerback) did not make it to campus as expected. However, the day’s surprises more than made up for these absences.

Four-star defensive end Nate Marshall, currently committed to Auburn, made an official visit to Texas. Marshall, an Illinois native, is a perfect fit for the “Jack” edge position in Kwiatkowski’s defense—the same role currently occupied by Barryn Sorrell.

Commitments on Campus

Several Texas commits were also in attendance, further strengthening the camaraderie within the class. IT confirmed that Jonah WilliamsKaliq LockettElijah Barnes, and Caleb Chester were all on campus. Their presence adds to the momentum of a class poised for a strong finish.

Five-Star Fasusi Visits Austin

Perhaps the most intriguing visitor was Oklahoma five-star commit Michael Fasusi. The left tackle made the trip to Austin and is expected to see Texas again next week during his visit to Texas A&M in College Station. Fasusi remains a key target in a heated three-team battle between Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. While Oklahoma’s recent struggles could open the door, Fasusi’s recruitment remains highly contested.

Confidence in a Strong Finish

The Longhorns are riding high following a successful recruiting weekend and a big on-field win. There’s growing optimism within the program that this recruiting class could finish with significant momentum.
