Two Longhorns have won the Walter Camp Player of the Year. Ricky Williams won the award in 1998 during his Heisman Trophy season, and Colt McCoy took home the accolade in 2008 and 2009.
This is Robinson’s second straight season on the Walter Camp watch list. Robinson, a junior from Tuscson, Ariz., has rushed for 1830 yards and 15 touchdowns in his two seasons with the Longhorns. He has also caught 41 passes for 491 yards and six scores. In 2021, Robinson rushed for 1127 yards and 11 touchdowns while catching 26 passes for 295 yards and four scores.
Robinson was also recently added to watch lists for the Wuerffel Trophy, the Maxwell Award, and the Doak Walker Award. He was also named the Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the preseason All-Big 12 team.
Worthy, a sophomore from Fresno, Calif., burst onto the scene last year and put his name near the top of several freshman statistical categories. In 12 games, Worthy hauled in 62 passes for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 12 scores broke the freshman school record and was one off from tying Jordan Shipley’s record of 13, set in 2009.

Worthy became a household name following his performance versus the Oklahoma Sooners. In the Longhorns’ losing effort, Worthy caught nine passes for 261 yards and two scores. It was one of three 200-receiving yard games in program history.
Worthy was also added to watch lists for the Biletnikoff Award and the Maxwell Award. Like Robinson, Worthy was named to the preseason All-Big 12 team. Both Robinson and Worthy received several preseason All-American honors.
The 2022 watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November. The 2022 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 130 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on ESPN’s College Football Awards Show (date TBD). The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation’s 55th annual national awards banquet in New Haven, Conn. in early 2023, per release.
