Texas' 2021 class continues to grow, and today's addition brings someone to the Forty Acres with the ability to play one of the toughest positions on the field.

2021 Denton Ryan ATH Billy Bowman Jr. has committed to Texas. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound athlete had over 25 scholarship offers including ones from Notre Dame, Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Missouri, Oregon, Purdue, and TCU among others.

Eric Nahlin on Bowman Jr.: The hot start to the 2021 class continues with perhaps the best pound-for-pound player in the state (it's either Bowman Jr. or JoJo Earle). He might be the first defensive player of the now six-man class but because of his ability to strike up the band in all three phases of the game it remains to be seen where he best fits at the next level.

I like him best at nickel because I think that position is more difficult to find than slot receiver. If he was going to an Air Raid program he'd likely be a slot because those coaches are notorious for robbing Peter, your defensive coordinator, to pay Paul, your offensive coordinator.

Bowman Jr. is a 'big' 5-foot-10, 180 pounds with plenty of width to add good weight. To go along with his disposition and instincts he'll have the 205 pounds or so needed to play force in the run game.

While I think his ceiling is on defense, it will be tempting to put him on offense. He not only has twitch (10.86 100m as a sophomore) but also great change of direction and ball skills. That thick build would lend itself to tackle-breaking YAC.

Not that it matters, because he shows it all on tape, but Bowman Jr. looks like a 120+ SPARQ athlete on top of being a three-phase football player.

Huge get.

Ian Boyd on Bowman Jr.: Bowman Jr. plays both ways at Denton Ryan, on defense as a corner with a knack for playing the ball in the air and making plays, and on offense as a slot busting long plays off screens and sweeps. He could develop in either direction but as a 180 pound sophomore there’s potential here for him to grow into a thickly built corner or nickel with above average ability to play the ball in man or zone coverage. He destroys the same screens that unleash him on offense with his recognition and timing and has a great feel for space.

Bowman Jr. is the sixth member of Texas' 2021 class joining Juan Davis (Everman), Hayden Conner (Katy Taylor), Jalen Milroe (Katy Tompkins), Lake McRee (Lake Travis), and Quaydarius Davis (Dallas Skyline).
