Brown to Texas
HOUSTON — At the end of the day, Chris Brown wanted to stay close to home.
The 3-star Alief Elsik safety committed to Texas today at an announcement at school. Brown chose UT over Florida and Michigan.
Excerpt from the Recruiting Notebook (4/15):
Chris Brown, DB, Aleif Elsik (2016)
How he fits at Texas: Brown is one of the better DBs I’ve seen on tape in the last few years. With his tackling, range, and quickness, you basically just want to put him wherever he can be around the ball the most. Perhaps the best fit is at free safety where he could erase big plays as a centerfielder and offer lightning run support even from a deep alignment. Nickel is another possibility but you ideally want him roaming free and running to the football. – IB
Coach says: Here’s another kid who is woefully underrated. This kid is a Swiss army knife in the secondary, but I absolutely love him playing centerfield and absolutely destroying everything that moves. This is a guy receivers will be looking over their shoulder for when they go across the middle because of his ability to separate them from the football. Again, whoever gets this kid is getting a steal.

How this affects Texas: Brown is becoming a class favorite for me. The young man from Houston is talented on and off the field. What he offers Texas is an athletic head-hunter who never goes backward and plays with an intensity you see in Charlie Strong-type players. And UT could have him. He’s teammates and close friends with Texas LB target Dontavious Jackson. Both really like the idea of playing together in Austin. Brown just needs an offer. With the state’s top guns looking elsewhere for now – Brandon Jones, Eric Monroe, and Deontay Anderson – Brown would be an excellent fit in the Horns secondary and he knows it. I think this finishes as a good story for the Texas faithful. Imagine him with Strong…[Vincent Price laughter in the background]. – JW
