Cajuns shut down Longhorns in Sugar Land, 8-1

Texas traveled to Sugar Land to take on the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in a midweek match-up at Constellation Field.
They forgot their bats and arms at home. A six-run second boosted by a Louisiana grand slam and silence from the Longhorn bats all evening allowed for UL to cruise to an easy win, 8-1. Freshman starter Blair Henley, who was charged with five earned runs on five hits on 1.1 innings pitched, received the loss.
Before their big second inning rally, the Cajuns scratched a run across with two outs in the first. Cajun right fielder Joe Robbins doubled over Travis Jones in left field after Jones did not take the best of routes to the ball. Cajun right fielder Steven Sensley then capitalized and singled to bring home the first Cajun run.
Louisiana would then show Henley and his replacement, senior Jon Malmin, why they are one of the top teams in the country. UL lead off the inning with a single. With one out, they added another single, and the runner advanced to third on great hit-and-run execution. Henley allowed one more RBI single to Hunter Kasuls and hit a batter to load the bases before being replaced by Malmin.
Upon entering the game, Malmin would walk Cajun shortstop Brad Antchak to give UL a 3-0 advantage. One batter later, Robbins would smash a hanging breaking ball over the left-center field fence to give UL a dominating 7-0 lead.
UL would add one more run in the seventh when Robbins scored on a dropped third strike to make it 8-0.

The Longhorns would add their only offense in the ninth with the game out of hand when sophomore Tyler Rand brought in freshman Andres Sosa to make it 8-1.

IT: With how important these games are getting at the end of the year, how do you respond before you head to Stillwater?
DP: We need to get over this one. It was our ugliest loss of the year. Nothing seemed to work out on the mound or offensively. We got beat pretty good by a good team. We’ve just got to get over it and move on.
IT: You were aggressive at the plate from the get-go with what seemed to be a tight strike zone. Was that not working tonight?
DP: We didn’t make pitches. We just did a poor job of finishing some hitters in the first. In the second, we got ourselves in trouble and we didn’t have help in the bullpen
IT: The mass subs in the 8th inning, to send a message or get some guys playing time?
DP: We’re a team. We win and lose, and our subs work hard every day. They went in, Sosa made some great plays. Austin Todd made a nice play in right field. They deserved to play, and it was just one of those situations where it felt like it was best for them to play.
