Duncanville, TexasCameron Williams was a key member of the Texas Longhorns No. 5 ranked class in the 2022 cycle.

The 6-foot-5, 365-pound right tackle committed to Texas December 12, the day following On3 Consensus 5-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks

Those two days went a long way to the Longhorns extremely strong close, and top 5 class

Now almost two months later, Williams reflects on the decision to pick the Longhorns.

“It was really just like a tough decision,” Williams told Inside Texas Friday. “I was 100 percent committed to Oregon, but Texas kept hitting me up and stuff. And I decided to decommit after Coach Cristobal left Oregon.”

Texas had one thing going for them if Williams ever decided to reopen his recruitment: a consistent and relentless recruiting approach by Longhorns offensive line coach Kyle Flood.

“That was really with me the whole time I was committed. Coach Flood stayed on me. He’s a great coach, and knows a whole lot about offensive line. He’s just a great coach.”

The Texas decision was a great early Christmas present for Williams’ mother.

“Yes she was very excited. She was excited just like when I committed to Oregon. But she was more excited about Texas because she can go to every game.”

Williams has designs on winning the right tackle job

Williams was all business in the conversation with Inside Texas Friday. He’s headed to Austin in June to compete right away for the right tackle job. And he’s confident in his chances.

“Really, I think they are going to put me out at right tackle, and move me to guard if right tackle doesn’t work out. Right tackle will work out. That’s where I want to play. I’m going in to compete right away, that’s it.”

Duncanville OL coach breaks down Williams

Coach Joe has coached Williams two years. Having coached him as a freshman before taking another job, and then as a senior, he has a unique view of the On3 Consensus 4-star right tackle.

“As a kid, he’s a great kid,” Joe told Inside Texas Friday. “He’s going to attempt everything you ask him to do. A big time kid. Possible NFL type with his size and movement. Depends on his development, but he’s the real deal. He’s strong. He’s nasty, and not afraid to work.”

Joe sees some areas that Texas and Kyle Flood will develop to take Williams to another level.

“The biggest thing is a little flexibility. Every big guy can improve there. A little bit of footwork because he gets his feet too close together sometimes. Other than that, he’s pretty sound. Maybe staying vertical in his pass set a little longer.”
