The 6-foot-3 guard and WAC Freshman of the Year committed to Rodney Terry and staff following an official visit to Austin.
The decision by the former Mansfield Timberview standout to shut down his recruitment is a big win for the Longhorns. Weaver made an official visit to Texas A&M to begin the week, and was scheduled to make an official visit to Texas Tech this weekend.
Terry, Frank Haith and Brandon Chappell made an in-home visit with Weaver and family last week prior to locking in the visit date. The staff told Weaver at that time that the Longhorns were all in on bring the former Mansfield Timberview standout to Texas.
Weaver is seen as a player with similar traits to Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year Sir’Jabari Rice.
What Weaver means for Texas
The 6-foot-3 explosive guard raced past expectations as a freshman earning WAC honors. Weaver joins Oral Roberts scoring machine Max Abmas in transfers into the program at guard. He has a skill set that blends perfectly with Abmas. Weaver plays effectively without the ball with an understanding of floor spacing and timely cutting toward the basket. Because he shot 40% from three for the Mavericks in 2022-23, it help open up the floor even more when Abmas has ball in hand working in the ball screen game.
