Chris Whaley: The Next Great Texas RB
It’s not every day that a sophomore receives all-state honors especially in the Lone Star State, but that’s exactly what Madisonville running back Chris Whaley did last year. Many experts think that Whaley is the best back to come out of Texas since Adrian Peterson. With his combination of size and speed, it’s easy to see where the comparisons come from.
The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Chris Whaley rushed for 2,130 yards and scored 27 touchdowns as a sophomore. His numbers were good enough to earn Second Team All-State honors. One Big 12 school has already taken notice of Whaley, and he is definitely interested.
“UT,” Whaley replied when about the schools that he will take strong interest in. “I’m probably going to look at Oklahoma and A&M as well.”
Madisonville High School is in the middle of spring practice, and the Longhorn coaches have already stopped by to check Whaley out.
“Texas has been there,” Whaley said when asked if any schools had stopped by spring practice. “So far, that has really been it since I’m only a sophomore. They really can’t talk to me yet.”

Whaley said that the Longhorns are on top of his list right now. What sticks out about Texas?
“I just like their style of playing football,” Whaley said.
Whaley attended summer camp at Texas A&M last year and is planning on making some more stops this summer.
“I went to a three day camp at A&M,” Whaley said. “It was pretty good. I learned a lot.”
“The day after school gets out on the 26th, me and my brother are going to Oklahoma State’s camp,” Whaley added. “On June 10th, I’m going to a one day camp at the University of Texas.”
With Whaley’s size, strength and speed, it’s easy to see why he has five-star potential. He has a track background and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds. At last check, Whaley benched 270 pounds and squatted 370 pounds.
