Colin Simmons named to FWAA Freshman All-America Team
Texas freshman edge rusher Colin Simmons has been named a freshman All-American, as announced by the Football Writers Association of America on Tuesday.

Simmons’ selection marks the fourth consecutive season in which a Texas player has been selected to the team, the first time since 2006 that the Longhorns have been represented for four or more seasons in a row.
Simmons’ freshman year was a remarkable one on the Forty Acres. The true freshman entered the school as a top-15 player in the 2024 class and made an immediate mark for the Longhorns. Simmons registered 48 tackles, 14 for loss, and nine sacks in his first collegiate season, strong enough marks to earn him the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, given to the nation’s top freshman.
His selection might have been one of the easiest to make for the FWAA voters, as he and South Carolina’s Dylan Stewart were the only freshman edge rushers to eclipse 20 pressures, both shattering that mark with 46 and 52, respectively. Stewart, alongside Oklahoma’s Jayden Jackson and Ole Miss’s Jamarioius Brown, joined Simmons on the defensive line on the All-America team.
Simmons now joins Xavier Worthy, Kelvin Banks and Anthony Hill as the four Texas selections of the 2020s, an elite company of Longhorn legends and future first-round picks.
