“Honestly, I’m just getting comfortable,” Simmons said. “I’m just getting started. That’s the crazy thing. I’m just now getting started bro. The more comfortable I get in college football, it’s the best. I’ve got a lot in me.”
Turned out, he was right. Simmons was named to the Freshman All-SEC team on Thursday.
Simmons, who played in all 13 games this season, tallied 38 tackles including 12.5 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks. He also netted three forced fumbles. His best performance was a seven-tackle, 3.0-TFL, 2.0-sack, one-forced fumble day versus Mississippi State. He recorded five or more tackles in games versus UTSA, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M.
Simmons was also named a True Freshman All-American by On3, the only Longhorn to earn those accolades.
A member of Texas’ class of 2024, Simmons was ranked as the No. 15 overall prospect, the No. 2 EDGE, and the No. 5 player in Texas in the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranked Simmons as the No. 28 overall prospect, the No. 5 EDGE, and the No. 6 player in Texas.
