Courtney Ramey declares for NBA draft, to enter transfer portal
Texas guard Courtney Ramey just completed his fourth season as a member of the Texas Longhorns. It very well could have been his last. Ramey announced Thursday via his father’s Twitter account he will declare for the 2022 NBA draft and enter the NCAA transfer portal.

“Longhorn Nation!” Ramey wrote in the post. “I want to thank you for welcoming me into the program. I am forever grateful. I also want to thank the coaches for giving me the opportunity to play. I will always remember the relationships I have formed with my teammates. To my family, I want to thank you for supporting me every step of the way.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to declare for the 2022 NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility. I have also decided to enter the transfer portal in an effort to explore all my options. Thank you Longhorn Nation!”
Inside Texas’ Gerry Hamilton reported earlier this week that Ramey was not expected to return to Chris Beard’s program for the 2022-23 season, citing a desire to be more of a primary ball-handler.
A 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior from Webster Groves High School in St. Louis, Mo., Ramey scored 1275 points in his Texas career. He appeared in 128 games with 106 starts, averaging 10.0 points per game and shooting 39 percent from the field. He averaged 30 minutes per game for his career.
During the 2021-22 season, Ramey started 32 of Texas’ 34 games. He averaged 9.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. He shot 40 percent from the field, 35 percent from three, and 77 percent from the free-throw line.
If his Texas career is complete, he leaves with an NIT championship and a Big 12 tournament title on his resume.

What does this mean for Texas?
Just like last year, Beard has some work to do in the NCAA transfer portal. Should he choose, he could re-recruit Ramey back to Texas for a second time. Inside Texas does not view that as very likely.
Tristen Licon and Jase Febres have exhausted their eligibility.
At guard, Texas is waiting to find out if seniors Andrew Jones, Avery Benson, and Marcus Carr elect to return to the program.

Devin Askew recently told Inside Texas he plans to return to the Longhorn program for a second season in burnt orange.
On3 Consensus five-star Arterio Morris is signed with Texas. Consensus four-star guard Rowan Brumbaugh is committed to Beard’s program and plans to put pen to paper during the next signing period.
