(Justin Wells/IT)[/caption] AUSTIN -- Texas landed its first commitment from the Class of 2017 today when John Tyler WR Damion Miller verbally pledged to Charlie Strong and the Longhorns, per John Tyler Football on Twitter. He's a stud, explosive wide receiver and a great way to start the junior recruiting class. On a scale of 1-10 my excitement is an 8.5 on Miller. Check out his highlights:  - Eric Nahlin From the Recruiting Notebook: How he fits at Texas: Miller is absurdly fast and it's often a simple matter for him to just run by the corner. He's good at adjusting to the ball in the air, often having to box-out corners on film to catch under thrown balls. Texas hasn't had a vertical speed demon like this since Mike Davis graduated and he wasn't always a consistent threat here. Beyond that, Miller also has potential as a weapon on tunnel screens and in the passing game as a possession receiver with an eye for soft spots in zone coverage. He could project as either a mobile weapon working off a big receiver like Collin Johnson or as the go-to outside threat if he maximizes his athletic potential by learning to run good routes. - Ian Boyd Coach Says: One word: WHEELS. This kid can get out and go in a hurry and has the potential to be a legit field-stretcher on the outside. Doesn’t matter if it is a short, intermediate, or deep route, this kid shows that once he gets the ball in his hands, he can take it the distance. He is potentially a guy you may have to compensate by putting a safety over the top because of his ability to flat-out run by corners. Shows ability to shake a jam too. How this affects Texas: Miller is finally enjoying the fruits of being a top in-state recruit. Miller realizes if he doesn't pick favorites, more schools approach him. He's actually a smart, funny young man with great burst to go with a nice Big 12 wide receiver frame. UT also has good luck at John Tyler. Although previous Texas coaching greats Darrell Royal and Mack Brown are no longer recruiting the school and were responsible for the majority of Horns stars from the Cujo program, Strong has already made a great impression on the JT staff. I think Texas winds up doing well in the East Texas football power. Or should I say continues... - Justin Wells
