A common belief when it comes to Texas Longhorns sports is that there are two seasons, football and spring football. Fans of other sports may rightfully dissent, but spring football holds an important place in the minds of Longhorn faithful.

Though it hasn’t been announced when spring practices will start, it is now known when they will end. The Longhorns’ annual Orange-White Game, the third under Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, will take place on Saturday, April 15.

University of Texas vice president and athletics director Chris Del Conte announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday night.

The spring game has been a staple in college football for as long as programs have been allotted 15 practices during the months of March and April.

It is not yet clear when the Longhorns will begin spring practices. Last year, the Longhorns waited until after spring break to begin going through the 15 allotted opportunities either at the Frank Denius Fields or Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium.

Last year, Texas used the spring game to show offseason progress following Sarkisian’s 5-7 opening campaign. A score was not kept until the very end of the contest when an offense versus defense battle in the red zone determined the victor.

There were highlight plays, like Quinn Ewers finding Isaiah Neyor for a deep touchdown pass, Roschon Johnson running 55 yards for a score, and several members of the Texas secondary placing huge hits on offensive opponents.

“We’re a team,” Sarkisian said after the 2022 spring game. “We’re just so much further along as the way we conduct, and the way we are around ourselves. Somebody said something to me the other day on our team, about none of us want to let each other down. That was one of the coolest things I’ve heard a player say to me since I’ve been here, that they’re actually doing the things necessary in that, yes, they want to do it for themselves, but they want to do it because they don’t want to let their brother down next to them.”

Though it has not been announced yet, the contest is likely to air on Longhorn Network.
