Demarvion Overshown named to Bednarik, Lombardi award watch lists
Texas senior linebacker Demarvion Overshown has been named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced, and the Lombardi Award watch list, the Rotary Club of Houston announced on Monday.
The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in college football. The Lombardi Award is presented annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman, who in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi. Overshown was also named to the Bronco Nagurski Trophy watch list, Butkus Award preseason watch list, and was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team for 2022 last week.

Overshown is a fifth-year linebacker from Arp (Texas), who has played in 38 career games and made 22 starts. In 2021, he started 10 games, leading the Longhorns in total tackles (74) and solo tackles (38), while adding (36) assists and being second in tackles for loss (5.5).
Overshown also notched two sacks, two fumble recoveries, had two pass-breakups last season. He tallied a career-high 13 (four solo) against Louisiana, eight tackles and two tackles-for-loss versus Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout.

Former Longhorns’ Derrick Johnson and Brian Orakpo won the Nagurski Trophy in 2004 and 2008, respectively. Semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced November 1, 2022, while the three finalists for the award will be unveiled November 22, 2022. The winners of the 28th Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 8, 2022. The formal presentation of the Bednarik Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards live from Atlantic City, NJ on March 10, 2023.
Three Longhorns have won the Lombardi Award, most recently Brian Orakpo in 2008. Tony Degrate won the award in 1984 while Kenneth Sims took it home in 1981. Nine other Longhorns have been finalists for the award, including Justin Blalock (2006), Rodrique Wright (2005), Derrick Johnson (2004), Cory Redding (2002), Doug Dawson (1983), Steve McMichael (1979), Brad Shearer (1977), Bill Wyman (1973) and Jerry Sisemore (1972).
