DeMarvion Overshown opts out of Alamo Bowl

Senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will not play in Texas’ upcoming bowl game, he announced Sunday. Inside Texas previously reported he was expected to sit out the Valero Alamo Bowl versus Washington.

This season, Overshown has been one of the biggest components of Texas’ defensive turnaround in year two of Pete Kwiatkowski’s tenure as Longhorn defensive coordinator. In 12 games this year, Overshown has 96 tackles including 10.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. He also has five passes defended on the year. 

In 2021, Overshown had 74 tackles in 11 games, including 5.5 for loss and 2.0 sacks. He has three career interceptions, with one of them iioccurring during his time as a linebacker. 

Overshown was a 2022 preseason watch list candidate for the Butkus Award, Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and chosen to the 2022 All-Big 12 Preseason Team. Overshown was selected to the 2022 ESPN All-Big 12 Preseason Team, named preseason first-team All-Big 12 by Phil Steele in 2022, and 2022 first-team All-Big 12 Preseason selection by Athlon Sports.

Overshown earned All-Big 12 honorable mention as a linebacker in 2020 and 2021, notching the 2020 Valero Alamo Bowl Defensive MVP after switching from defensive back to linebacker prior to the 2020 season. He’s a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (spring 2020, fall 2021) and was an All-America, all-state and all-district honoree in high school.

Overshown enjoyed an illustrious high school career. Coached by Dale Irwin at Arp, the December signee also played in the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game. Also named first team All-USA Texas by USA Today and named first-team All-State by the Associated Press and Texas Sports Writers Association in 2017. The former four-star was tabbed Defensive MVP of District 9-3A II and first-team all-district as a senior.
