DeMarvion Overshown selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft

Agent Zero, you have your next assignment. Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was selected with the 90th overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft. Overshown is the second Longhorns selected so far, joining Bijan Robinson.

Overshown, who checked in at 6-foot-2.75, 231 pounds at the Texas pro day, played in 50 games at Texas with 33 starts. He began his UT career as a safety after signing with the Longhorns’ strong 2018 defensive back class, but eventually moved the linebacker ahead of the 2020 season.

He earned first-team All-Big 12 honors at linebacker in 2022 from both the Associated Press and the conference’s coaches. In 12 games with 11 starts, Overshown tallied a career-best 96 tackles with 10.0 TFL and four sacks. He was part of a massive defensive improvement for the Longhorns from 2021 to 2022.

In 2021, he tallied 74 tackles with 5.5 for loss and 2.0 sacks. He was an all-Big 12 honorable mention after leading the team in tackles. His 2020, another all-Big 12 honorable mention campaign, was his first as a full-time linebacker. He started all 10 games and tallied 60 tackles with 8.0 TFL, one sack, and a team high seven pass breakups.

The first two years of Overshown’s career were spent as a safety. He played in nine games during his freshman year in 2018, mostly on special teams. He tallied one tackle before earning more playing time in 2019 as part of Texas’ dime defensive package. He played in eight games with two starts, making 18 tackles. Overshown missed several games in 2019 due to an injury.
