Texas will begin its 2023-24 season with the Orange-White Scrimmage in Gregory Gym on Tuesday, October 17 at 6 p.m., the program announced Wednesday. Admission will be free, and all seating is general admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

Doors will open at 5 p.m.

The scrimmage will serve as the unofficial kickoff for Rodney Terry‘s first season as permanent head coach of the Longhorns. Terry took over last year, first as acting head coach, when Chris Beard was suspended in December. Upon Beard’s dismissal, Terry was named interim head coach.

During his tenure as acting and interim coach, Terry was 22-8 and 12-6 in the Big 12. He led the Longhorns to the program’s second Big 12 Tournament title, and back to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time ever and the first time since 2008.

Terry was named the 26th head coach of the Longhorn men’s basketball program on March 27, 2023.

Since his hiring, Terry has worked to build the Longhorn roster via high school recruiting and the transfer portal.

Texas added five transfers in the offseason in Virginia’s Kadin Shedrick, UCF’s Ithiel Horton, UTEP’s Ze’Rik Onyema, UT-Arlington’s Chendall Weaver, and Oral Roberts’ Max Abmas.
