Details on Steve Sarkisian's contract extension revealed, including a sizable raise

Details for Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian‘s one-year extension were included in the agenda book for the University of Texas System Board of Regents’ upcoming February meeting released Saturday. In addition to a one-year extension, Sarkisian is also getting a significant raise.

Sarkisian was due to make $10.4 million this year, with the number rising by $100,000 every year until the final year of the contract in 2030 where he would have made $10.9 million.
Now, Sarkisian will make $10.8 million in 2025 with an annual escalation of $250,000. Sark will make $11.05 million in 2026, $11.3 million in 2027, $11.55 million in 2028, $11.8 million in 2029, $12.05 million in 2030, and $12.3 million in 2031.
Last year, Sarkisian was one of seven coaches to make more than $10 million per year, according to data compiled by USA Today.
Sarkisian’s bonus structure does not change. His contract includes regular perks for UT coaches, including ticket allotment for home and road football games, social club memberships, private airplane use, and dealer cars.

In addition to Sarkisian, assistant head coach, tight ends coach, and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks received an extension through the 2027 season. His 2025 salary of $1.2 million and his 2026 pay of $1.25 million will not change, but he had an additional year in 2027 tacked on to the end of his deal. He will receive $1.3 million that year.
Inside linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen received a raise and an extension. His 2025 salary went from $925,000 to $1.1 million. An additional year was added to the end of his contract. He’ll make $1.2 million.
No other assistant coaching contracts were on the Board of Regents agenda.

The Board of Regents is likely to rubber stamp the agreement at their upcoming meeting, which starts on Wednesday in Austin, Texas.
