Documents reveal Texas assistant coaching contracts: Details on salaries, extensions, raises

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian had a one-year extension through the 2031 season approved by the UT System Board of Regents in February, but that wasn’t the only coaching contract agreed to between the University of Texas and members of Sarkisian’s program.

An open records request by Inside Texas revealed contract details for assistants AJ Milwee, Kenny Baker, and Chris Jackson, plus general manager Brandon Harris and strength and conditioning coach Torre Becton.
Milwee, who carried the titles of co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2024 season, signed a contract extension on January 26 that keeps him in Austin through the 2026 campaign. He’s due $700,000 annually in 2025 and 2026.
Baker, the Longhorns’ defensive line coach, inked an extension on January 31 that signed him with Texas through the 2026 season. His salary is set to be $700,000 in both 2025 and 2026.
Jackson, Texas’ passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach, is still on his initial contract signed in 2023. The upcoming 2025 season is the final year of his contract. He’s set to earn $650,000 this season.
Becton signed multiple extensions this offseason. On January 24, he signed a deal that would have kept him at Texas through 2027 and paid him $700,000 for the upcoming season with his salary increasing by $50,000 each year.
After the NFL came calling, Texas raised his salary in a new contract signed on February 14. It keeps him in Austin for the same amount of time but pays him $850,000 this season. The salary rises by $25,000 each year over the life of the contract.
Harris, a longtime member of the program who now holds the title of general manager, signed a new contract on January 14 that pays him $600,000 per year through the end of the 2026 season.
Before departing for the New Orleans Saints, Terry Joseph was set to make $850,000 in 2025 and $875,000 in 2027.

A request for new Texas assistant Mark Orphey‘s contract was not included in the UT open records department’s response to Inside Texas. Requests for contracts for new assistants Duane Akina and Chad Scott are outstanding.
Last month, the board of regents approved contract extensions for Sarkisian, special teams coordinator, tight ends coach, and assistant head coach Jeff Banks, and co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Johnny Nansen.
Banks received an extension through the 2027 season. His 2025 salary of $1.2 million and his 2026 pay of $1.25 million did not change, but he had an additional year in 2027 tacked on to the end of his deal. He will receive $1.3 million that year.
Nansen received a raise and an extension. His 2025 salary went from $925,000 to $1.1 million. An additional year was added to the end of his contract. He’ll make $1.2 million in 2026.
Offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski received extensions following the 2023 season. Flood is signed through 2026. He’ll make $1.4 million in 2025 and $1.475 million in 2026. Kwiatkowski is signed through 2026 as well. He’s due $1.9 million in 2025 and $2 million in 2026.

Sarkisian’s extension was agreed to following the 13-3 2024 season, Texas’ first in the Southeastern Conference. He will make $10.8 million in 2025 with an annual escalation of $250,000. Sark will make $11.05 million in 2026, $11.3 million in 2027, $11.55 million in 2028, $11.8 million in 2029, $12.05 million in 2030, and $12.3 million in 2031.
