Dylan Disu makes season debut during Texas' matchup with LSU
Texas forward Dylan Disu hasn’t played for the Longhorns since the 2023 NCAA tournament, but that changed on Saturday morning. Disu, a 6-foot-9 graduate student who was the catalyst for the Longhorn offense during its Elite Eight run last year, made his season debut in the Longhorns’ matchup with the LSU Tigers in Houston as part of The Halal Guys Showcase.

Disu, who has suited up in 62 career games for Texas and 111 total after two seasons with Vanderbilt, averaged 8.8 points and 4.4 rebounds last season. He’s been out since the Longhorns’ loss to the Miami Hurricanes in the Elite Eight, which came two days after he played only two minutes in a Sweet Sixteen win over Xavier.
A foot ailment and ensuing surgery kept him out of action for the first nine games of the season. Texas head coach Rodney Terry had been mum on Disu for most of the leadup to the season, and that carried over to this past week.
“He worked really hard this week,” said Terry. “We’ve had some really good practices. He has had a chance to finally be engaged in practices. Physically? He’s still working with his conditioning.

Disu’s action is likely to be very limited over the course of the next few games considering this is his first game action, but his addition inches Terry’s team to as close to full strength as it has been during his first season as the permanent head coach of the Longhorns.
