Dylan Volantis and Rylan Galvan should be All-Americans

No. 3 Texas has obviously experienced a good deal of success in the 2025 season. Staring down a top eight seed in the NCAA tournament, the Longhorns are right where any team would love to be heading to postseason play. That doesn’t happen without some excellent play from some potential All-Americans.

Lets start with the most obvious choice. Dylan Volantis has been a remarkable pitcher of Texas. In his true freshman season he quickly showed he not only had the pitching ability but also the mental ability to be a true closer. Sitting at No. 4 in the country in saves with 12 and with a sterling 1.52 ERA on the season, he is practically a shoo-in as an All-American. Volantis has 61 strikeouts to 9 walks, good for a 6.78 K:BB ratio. He’s striking out 15.11 batters per nine innings, a tick behind Tennessee’s Liam Doyle who leads the nation with a 15.31 K/9. His WHIP is an extraordinary .85 on the season
What we are getting to see from Volantis is true big league stuff Texas fans should enjoy it for the time Volantis is on the 40 Acres. Freshmen are not supposed to be able to dominate like Volantis is, especially in the toughest league in college baseball. Oh yeah, he’s in the most pressure-packed moments of games. No. 99 is special.
Rylan Galvan is the other obvious selection for landing on an All-American team. He was recently named the best catcher in the nation by D1 Baseball in their late season position rankings and it is easy to see why. Defensively he has been lights out stopping baseballs, throwing out runners, and making the correct calls to nail a lead runner. Galvan is throwing out 53% of runners in 2025 compared to his 32% in 2024. He’s also one of if not the biggest leader on this Texas baseball team.
Beyond that, he has been a tremendous hitter. With 14 homers on the year he already surpassed the 12 he hit in his freshmen and sophomore campaigns. Batting .305 on the season, he has a slugging percentage of .662 and an OBP of .462 which is good for an OPS of 1.124. He is playing absolutely lights out on both sides of the ball.

Volantis is likely a freshman AND traditional All-American. Adrian Rodriguez is making his case that he could join Volantis on the freshman team. Rodriguez is battling through injury yet is putting forth a good resume. Hitting .307 on the the year with an OPS of .917, he has shown to be a valuable piece to the puzzle and he is doing it while banged up.
Early in the year he looked like a true freshman defensively with five of his seven errors on the season coming in the first nine games. Since then, not only has he shown an ability to be a versatile player, playing both left field and second base to help with injuries to starters, he has made some true highlight reel plays as well.
There have been plenty of things to be excited about from this 2025 Texas Baseball team and those guys are just a glimpse into the greatness. Guys like Max Belyeu and Ethan Mendoza were likely robbed of All-America honors with the injuries they suffered, but their potential returns could make those types of individual accolades less important in the grand scheme of things if they function as catalysts for a deep postseason run.

Still, Galvan and Volantis have played to a high standard this season and should end up joining the ranks of Longhorn All-Americans in short order.
