Elite cornerback Kade Phillips flips from LSU, commits to Texas again
Moments ago elite cornerback Kade Phillips decommitted from LSU and committed to Texas. Phillips, from Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Hightower, should be a familiar name to Longhorns fans. He was committed to Texas from July 6 to August 18 before he made the clean flip to LSU.

Phillips’ star and star-rating have been on the rise during his senior season. On3 currently has Phillips as the No. 4 cornerback and No. 23 nationally. That’s good enough to be considered a five-star. 247 isn’t far behind with Phillips rated as the No. 6 cornerback and No. 37 player nationally.
What is that has the networks even higher on him than before the season? Phillips has demonstrated he’s a cornerback when prior to this season some felt he might end up at safety. Safety was Texas’ original evaluation before changing it to cornerback. Corner is Phillips’ preferred position.
Listed at a shade under 6-foot-1, Phillips is much longer when you stand next to him. That length, plus elite twitch in track and field, gives him an elite starter kit.

From On3 scouting:
One of the top physical talents at cornerback in the 2025 cycle with unique dimensions, athleticism and ball skills. Measured in at 6-foot-0.5, 180 pounds with elite length (33.5-inch arms) and massive 10.5-inch hands. A top track athlete who was a state finalist in the long jump as a junior. Shows his high-end physical traits on Friday nights. A two-way standout for his high school team, lining up at wide receiver and corner. Shows excellent ball skills, coming down with contested catches with regularity. The ball skills manifest in high end ball production with several receiving touchdowns and interceptions as a senior. Able to stay in phase and uses his burst to close cushions quickly. Draws on his experience as a safety to provide a physical presence in run support. Will need to continue adding technical polish to his cover skills. Owns one of the highest upsides at cornerback in the 2025 cycle.
Phillips re-joins his friend, cornerback Caleb Chester, in Texas’ class. The duo gives Texas two long corners who happen to both hail from Houston’s southwest side.

This was a flip that Inside Texas hinted at early afternoon on Monday but couldn’t name for obvious reasons. Texas and LSU continue to have a budding recruiting rivalry with Texas winning, then losing, then winning this recruitment again.
