Heading into the 2025 season, Texas will have a young and inexperienced tight end room with redshirt freshman Jordan Washington, true freshmen Emaree Winston and Nicholas Townsend, and redshirt sophomores Spencer Shannon and Will Randle. With no veterans in the mix, Texas faces important decisions regarding the transfer portal and the 2026 recruiting class.

If Texas opts not to pursue veteran players through the portal—a decision likely to become clearer after spring football—the focus will shift entirely to the 2026 recruiting class. Here are the key targets Texas has offered that remain uncommitted.

Zachary Turner, ATH, Duncanville (Texas): A 6’3”, 215-pound playmaker who excels in the passing game. Offered by Texas in June 2023, Turner has drawn significant attention, including offers from Georgia and Miami. A physical, versatile target with receiver-like movement and big-play potential, Turner is ranked as the No. 29 ATH in the nation, the No. 44 player in Texas, and the No. 349 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking. With Texas’ strong pipeline to Duncanville High School, Turner could be a high-priority target.

Kaiden Prothro, TE, Bowden (Ga.): At 6’6.5”, 210 pounds, Prothro is a four-star athlete offered by Texas on May 15, 2024. An athletic freak on both the football and basketball fields, Prothro dominates as a flex tight end, showcasing elite range, physicality in the run game, and scoring ability from anywhere on the field. He’s ranked as the No. 2 TE nationally, the No. 3 player in Georgia, and the No. 41 overall prospect, making him one of the top targets in the 2026 class.

Camden Jensen, TE, Littleton (Colo.) Heritage: A 6’6”, 230-pound four-star tight end offered in June 2024. Jensen is a reliable red zone target with solid blocking ability, making him a true dual-threat option. He’s ranked as the No. 9 TE in the country, the No. 1 player in Colorado, and the No. 222 overall prospect.

J.C. Anderson, TE, Decatur (Ill.) Mount Zion: At 6’6”, 230 pounds, Anderson is a big-bodied tight end who excels as a red zone threat and is willing to do the dirty work in the run game. Offered in June 2024, he’s ranked as the No. 7 TE nationally, the No. 4 player in Illinois, and the No. 113 overall prospect.

If Texas skips the portal for veteran tight ends, expect them to focus heavily on these uncommitted prospects. Zachary Turner’s dynamic skill set and ties to Duncanville football make him a top priority, while Kaiden Prothro offers elite athleticism and game-changing potential.”
