Shortly after the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs completed their perfect season with a 65-7 victory over the No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs in the College Football Playoff National Championship, the Associated Press released the final AP top 25 poll of the 2022 season. The Texas Longhorns finished ranked No. 25.

The Longhorns were one of two teams who finished 8-5 that made the final top 25, along with the South Carolina Gamecocks. This is the third time in program history the Longhorns finished the year barely inside the final list of 25, joining the 1994 team what went 8-4 and the 2019 team that finished the season 8-5.

Texas is ranked in the final postseason AP poll for the 50th time in program history, last accomplishing the feat in 2020 when the 7-3 Longhorns finished ranked No. 19 in the final AP poll.

It is Steve Sarkisian’s first time finishing ranked in the final AP poll as the head coach of the Longhorns, and his third time finishing the year in the final AP poll as a head coach. He last accomplished the feat in 2014 when the USC Trojans finished No. 20.

The voter who ranked the Longhorns the highest in their final AP poll was NDInsider.com’s Mike Beradino, who placed the Longhorns at No. 16.

Other Big 12 teams to finish within the top 25 include No. 2 TCU and No. 14 Kansas State. Texas Tech was in the receiving votes category, as was future Big 12 member Cincinnati.

Six SEC teams, three Big Ten teams, three ACC teams, three Big 12 teams, six Pac-12 teams, one American Athletic Conference team, one Mountain West Team, one Sun Belt team, and one Independent made up the final group of 25.
