Arkansas EDGE Landon Jackson has had a front row seat to his little brother Lance Jackson’s, recruitment. The Texarkana (Texas) Pleasant Grove products have similar college recruiting paths, they just went in different directions.

Landon committed and signed with LSU in the Class of 2021, then transferred to Arkansas after one season in Baton Rouge. He’s now an All-SEC defensive standout and a future NFL Draft pick. Lance, who is entering his senior season at Pleasant Grove, committed to the Longhorns earlier this year. Both played for head coach Josh Gibson and both are standout people, in addition to elite athletes.

Now both will be competing on the big stage in the SEC.

“It’s big-time. I think Texas is a really great school,” said Landon Jackson, during his interview at 2024 SEC Media Days from the Omni Hotel in Dallas on Thursday. “I mean, they are a powerhouse football team every single season, and SEC is the best level of football at the college level. I mean, I feel like they’re really going to make our conference stronger. I mean, I basically told Lance that I love their coaching staff. That’s a great school for you to play for.

While their parents attended Texas A&M, Mama Jackson might lean more toward calling the hogs than hooking ’em at this juncture.

“My mom is rooting for the Hogs all day,” Landon said. “I already made my mom a Hog.”

Landon tried to use some influence before Lance made his Texas pledge, but it appears the younger Jackson is all burnt orange.

“I tried real hard to bring him over before he committed,” said Landon. “I’m not going to lie, my sophomore year here and his junior year of high school, going into that season I almost got him to commit to Arkansas. I thought I had him. My parents talked him into waiting and feeling out the process, this and that. I guess he fell in love with Texas. Happy for him, I’m ready to see what he does there.”

The bigger question remains: Who was better at that age?

“I think he’s more physically gifted,” said Landon. “I feel like I had a higher motor, and I feel like that goes a long way in high school. Statistically, I was for sure. Just by numbers. I feel like he’s way more gifted and will end up being much better.”

The two might never see each other across the field in college, but it’s likely they’ll meet again one day in the NFL. Then mom might have to root for a new set of teams.
