The No. 45 ranked prospect in the class of 2024 announced his commitment to Texas over Auburn, Miami, Houston, LSU, TCU and Virginia Tech. The recruitment eventually came down to Texas and Auburn, with Miami trying to make a run in the last week.
Codie made an official visit to Texas September 16, along with his family and uncle. Codie’s father is former Cleburne High, Baylor, and NFL safety Nakia Codie. Codie’s uncle is former Cleburne High and Texas Longhorns wide receiver Dustin Armstrong.
Assistant Brandon Chappell was the lead recruiter for the Longhorns with Frank Haith and Rodney Terry assisting in the recruitment. This was the first big national recruiting win for Chappell. The Beaumont native was hired at Texas prior to the 2022-23 season.
The Houston Cougars began the summer and official visit process as the perceived leader. That changed with Texas, Auburn and Miami ascending to be the three favorites ahead of Thursday’s announcement.
