The preceding 2022 class is already off to a good start, but the way to win at a consistently high level is to stack talented class after talented class. At all times you need young players developing, creating competition, and providing valuable depth before becoming quality starters.
The top 5 contending 2023 class is just what Texas needed after the top 5 2022 class.

The Recruitment: Arch Manning first met Steve Sarkisian when Sark was the offensive coordinator at Alabama. From there, Manning began to build a strong bond with Sarkisian, who eventually took the head coaching job at Texas. When AJ Milwee and Kyle Flood got involved on the Longhorns’ behalf, the pursuit started to turn burnt orange. UT was in his top five from the start of the recruitment, but clear contenders in Texas, Alabama, and Georgia emerged in the spring of 2022. After Manning took official visits to Athens, Austin, and Tuscaloosa, he met with his family and they eventually decided Austin was the place to be. His first and only tweet spread like wildfire and UT’s class would never be the same.
The Projection: Good height and frame for the position. May not be done growing. Shows good functional athleticism in game settings. Will prove surprisingly elusive and faster than expected when the play breaks down. Has good film from both under center and in shotgun. Takeaway and drop are smooth with sure cross-steps. Ball carriage is mid-chest and eyes remain downfield. Reaches the top of his drop with a balanced athletic base and ready to push off to deliver the ball. Reads both sides of the field and influences the safeties routinely with head movement. Resets his feet frequently as needed. Delivers a consistent, mostly three-quarters delivery that is compact and quick. Finishes with a nice wrist snap and usually on balance with a good transfer of lower body power to upper body movement.

The Reasoning: “I love Austin. I love the people and the players there. I had four or five really good visits and I can’t wait to get there. Ultimately I found a lot of guys like myself, guys I like hanging around, guys like Michael Taaffe and the team. Great people to be around.” – Manning to Inside Texas during the summer
The Relationship: “I really trust Coach Sarkisian. (Sark) is a laid back guy, which I really like. He’s not always pitching me. He just checks in and that’s one thing I like about him. When it is football, he’s a genius.” – Manning to Inside Texas during the summer
The Enrollment: January 2023.
The Final Word: When Arch Manning committed to Texas on June 23rd, the recruiting world was turned on its head. Manning’s pledge verified Sarkisian’s status as a bona fide closer and provided a lightning strike-like jolt for UT’s Class of 2023. Manning’s commitment to Texas put the Longhorns in the headlines and was a key in Texas’ contention for top five status.
