The Highlights:
The Recruitment: Once again, the Longhorns fended off a number of national and regional powers, plus a previous commitment, for McCutcheon. The four-star took trips to Texas, Florida State, USC, Ohio State, and SMU during the official visit process. The Longhorns liked McCutcheon, but other programs, namely the Seminoles, showed him more love. Chris Jackson never lost touch even when McCutcheon committed to Florida State. As the Seminoles’ season tanked and needs arose for the Longhorns, Jackson and company pushed for the flip, eventually earning a commitment from the Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy product in October.
The Projection: A route running technician and a bit of a bigger receiver who can move like a smaller guy while running routes. Call him a power WR. He can run through arm tackles like a running back and usually goes through first contact.
He can high point the football, has strong releases at the LOS, and can separate with long strides. There are a number of acrobatic catches on his highlights that he makes look routine. There’s also some high-level thinking in his play as he shows an understanding of zone coverage spacing with the ability to throttle down and stay in the windows in zone coverage. He could play a lot of boundary WR like Adonai Mitchell but utilize a skill set similar to Jordan Whittington‘s.

The Final Word: McCutcheon was the final piece of the wide receiver puzzle for Jackson and Steve Sarkisian and looks like he could play the part of someone like Whittington or DeAndre Moore. McCutcheon’s physical ability and football character offer the Longhorns a well-rounded receiver corps signing on the dotted line on 2025’s signing day.
