HALFTIME REPORT: Kansas 35, Texas 14

Kansas took the Bo Davis video more serious than the Longhorns tonight. 

JaCobee Bryant’s pick-six interception of Hudson Card led to KU’s 21 unanswered points, and a 35-14 lead with under a minute left in the first half.

On offense, Jalon Daniels and Devin Neal came out confident and productive for the 1-8 Jayhawks from DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Neal’s 19-yard score off the swing pass gave KU the 28-14 lead right before the end of the half. 

Kansas started on point. Led Devin Neal’s 8-yard scoring run following a 13-play, 75-yard opening-game drive. KU took the early 7-0 lead as the Longhorns rolled off the bus. 

After a Casey Thompson fumble, KU’s offense continued its early march, culminating in a Mason Fairchild touchdown catch and subsequent 14-0 advantage.

As soon as the second quarter began, Texas did too. 

Casey Thompson hit Marcus Washington for a 25-yard scoring reception, the St. Louis junior’s second career touchdown, cutting the Jayhawks lead in half, 14-7, with 12:14 left in the first half. Doses of Kelvontay Dixon and Xavier Worthy helped with the Horns scoring march. 

Hudson Card entered the game early in the second quarter and led a scoring drive, capped by a beautiful toss to freshman Xavier Worthy for a 33-yard pitch and catch and a tied game at the 8:48 mark of the second. Worthy’s scoring grab was his ninth of the season, breaking Roy Williams freshman record. 

Coming into the contest, Kansas’ offense was 127th out of 130 FBS teams. They proceeded to score on five of its seven offensive drives.
