How players who transferred out of Texas fared in 2024

A number of players who were once part of Steve Sarkisian’s program played in a different uniform in 2024. How did those players perform after they found a new (or yet another) portal destination?

Jake Smith, WR, Arizona State

Smith had 11 touches for 105 yards.

Xavion Alford, S, Arizona State

The 100 Yard Landlord notched 82 tackles and two interceptions for the Sun Devil defense

Kenyatta Watson, S, Georgia State

Watson was a standout for the Panthers, recording 40 tackles and three interceptions for the Sun Belt program.

Dajon Harrison, WR, Utah Tech

Harrison signed in Texas’ class of 2020 before moving on to Connecticut. After a two-year stint in Storrs, Harrison transferred to Utah Tech for the 2024 season but did not play.

Kelvontay Dixon, WR, SMU

Dixon, younger brother of Keaontay Ingram, completed his third season on the Hilltop for the Playoff-bound Mustangs. He caught 20 passes for 378 yards and a touchdown in 2024 and has 1196 career receiving yards for SMU

David Abiara, EDGE, SMU

Abiara also completed his third season at SMU. He recorded two tackles for the Mustangs in 2024.

Myron Warren, DT, UIW

Warren left Texas for Texas State and spent two seasons in San Marcos before moving further south on IH-35. Warren recorded 23 tackles and 4.0 TFL plus 2.0 sacks for the FCS program.

Tyler Johnson, OL, Colorado

Johnson left Texas for Houston before he made his way to Boulder. A former five-star, Johnson was not a significant part of the Buffaloes’ successes in 2024.

Casey Thompson, QB, Oklahoma

Thompson walked on at Oklahoma after stops at Nebraska and FAU. He was rarely used behind Jackson Arnold and Michael Hawkins Jr.

Terrence Cooks II, LB, TCU

Cooks is again in the portal following his time with TCU. Cooks played one season at Texas in 2021. For TCU, he had seven career tackles.

Brenen Thompson, WR, Oklahoma

Thompson is back in the portal after playing significant snaps for Oklahoma in 2024. With the Sooners across two seasons, Thompson had 26 catches for 471 yards and four touchdowns.

Trill Carter, DT, Auburn

Carter recorded four tackles with one for loss for the Auburn Tigers in 2024.

Logan Parr, OG, SMU

Parr has been a consistent presence on the interior of the Mustang offensive line over the past two years and earned third-team All-ACC honors in 2024.

JD Coffey, S, San Diego State

Coffey tallied 47 tackles and one interception returned for a touchdown in 2024, his second season with the Aztecs. He tallied 59 career tackles in two years in San Diego.

Jalen Catalon, S, UNLV

Catalon returned to his 2020 ways in Las Vegas under Barry Odom. He recorded 89 tackles including five for loss and two sacks, plus five interceptions including one for a pick six. UNLV reached the Mountain West Conference championship game this season.

Troy Omeire, WR, Arizona State

Omeire played in 11 games and hauled in just three passes for 19 yards. He had a larger role in 2023 when he caught 20 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns.

DJ Harris, EDGE, South Florida

Harris notched 24 tackles with three for loss and 2.0 sacks in 2024. For the Bulls, he has 59 career tackles and 2.0 sacks.

Hudson Card, QB, Purdue

Card was 144-for-248 for 1641 yards and nine touchdowns over seven interceptions in 2024. He spent two years in West Lafayette and the Boilermakers went 5-19 in that timespan.

Jamier Johnson, CB, Indiana

Johnson recorded 34 tackles and one interception for the Hoosiers, who made their way to the College Football Playoff.

Andrej Karic, OL, Tennessee

Karic started all 12 games for the Volunteers at left guard. He’s played a key role in paving the way for All-American running back Dylan Sampson and boosting Tennessee to the College Football Playoff.

Prince Dorbah, EDGE, Arizona State

For the Playoff-bound Sun Devils, Dorbah recorded 11 tackles with three TFL and two sacks.

Jaylen Garth, OL, UTSA

Garth started a number of games at right tackle for the Roadrunners protecting Owen McCown‘s blind side.

S’Maje Burrell, LB, Sam Houston State

After one year with the Bearcats, Burrell once again finds himself in the transfer portal. During his time in Huntsville, Burrell logged eight total tackles and recovered a fumble.

Kristopher Ross, DL, Nevada

One of a number of Longhorns who went to Nevada under former Texas assistant Jeff Choate, Ross recorded 29 tackles with six for loss and 2.5 sacks for the Wolf Pack in 2024.

Savion Red, RB, Nevada

Red was the second leading rusher for Nevada in 2024 behind quarterback Brendon Lewis. Red rushed 119 times for 687 yards and eight touchdowns.

Kendrick Blackshire, LB, UTSA

Blackshire was with Texas for a short stint in the spring before portaling yet again following his departure from Alabama. For UTSA, he tallied seven total tackles.

Terrance Brooks, CB, Illinois

For Illinois, Brooks recorded only five tackles and one pass defended.

Austin Jordan, CB, TCU

Jordan played in 12 games for the Horned Frogs at the safety position in 2024. He notched 13 tackles with 1.5 TFL and no sacks.

Ky Woods, RB, Nevada

Woods was part of the walk-on ranks at Texas before he followed Choate to Reno. For the Wolf Pack, Woods returned kicks 10 times for 240 yards and was a key part of the Nevada special teams.

Zac Swanson, DT, Arizona State

Swanson struggled to find the rotation at Texas but was a critical part of the Sun Devils’ run to the CFP in a homecoming effort. He recorded 16 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks across 12 games.

Billy Walton, EDGE, SMU

For the Playoff Ponies, Walton was credited with 11 tackles including one for loss during the 2024 season.

J’Mond Tapp, EDGE, Arizona State

Tapp appeared versus Texas State but is back in the transfer portal after one year in Tempe.

Payton Kirkland, OL, Colorado

Kirkland elected to enter the transfer portal after not seeing any playing time for Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.

Kitan Crawford, DB, Nevada

Crawford was the Wolf Pack’s leading tackler in 2024. One of a number of Longhorns to play for Choate, Crawford had a career best 76 tackles, two interceptions including a pick six, and seven passes defended.

Jerrin Thompson, DB, Auburn

Staying in the SEC, Thompson was a mainstay for the Tiger defense under DJ Durkin. He was responsible for 65 tackles and intercepted opponents twice in 2024.

Sawyer Goram-Welch, DL, Coastal Carolina

Under former Texas assistants Tim Beck and Craig Naivar, Goram-Welch was credited with 28 tackles for the Chanticleers.

Isaiah Neyor, WR, Nebraska

Finally healthy, Neyor played in all 12 games for the Cornhuskers in 2024. He hauled in 34 receptions for 455 yards and five touchdowns.

Maalik Murphy, QB, Duke

Once again one of the hotter commodities in the portal, Murphy helped Duke to a 9-3 season under first-year head coach Manny Diaz. Murphy was 254-for-421 for 2933 yards and 26 touchdowns over 12 interceptions. He rushed for two touchdowns as well.

Casey Cain, WR, UNLV

Cain had seven catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns and played in every game for the Rebels.

Larry Turner-Gooden, S, San Jose State

Turner-Gooden had six tackles in 11 games and forced one fumble.

B.J. Allen Jr., DB, North Texas

Allen Jr. recorded 8 tackles this season.

Xavion Brice, DB, North Texas

Brice notched three tackles and a fumble recovery for the Mean Green.
