The medals won by Longhorns at the 2024 Paris Olympics
By Lawton Paddock: Current and former Longhorns won 16 medals during the 2024 Olympics, with six gold, seven silver, and three bronze. If competing as its own country, Texas would have been 16th among all nations in medals won. Their six gold medals would have netted the Longhorns a 14th place spot.

214 current and former UT athletes representing 38 countries have won 178 total medals, including 98 gold.
Gold
Julien Alfred (St. Lucia)
- Alfred attended UT from 2018-2023, becoming a national champion seven times across different events. She won gold in the 100m August 3rd and placed silver in the 200m August 6th.
Ryan Crouser (USA)
- Crouser graduated from Texas in 2016 after a decorated collegiate career, and has maintained his success 8 years later. On August 3rd, he won his 3rd straight Olympic gold medal in the shot put.
Hubert Kos (Hungary)
- Kos will be transferring to Texas from Arizona State for the upcoming swimming season. He won gold in the 200m backstroke August 1st.
Scottie Scheffler (USA)
- Scheffler played golf at UT from 2014-2018, helping the Longhorns win three Big 12 titles. Fast forward to 2024, and Scheffler is ranked number one in the OWGR, and won his first Olympic gold medal in men’s golf August 4th.
Tara Davis-Woodhall (USA)
- Davis-Woodhall was enrolled at Texas for two years after transferring from Georgia. She placed sixth in women’s long jump in 2020 before finally winning gold August 8th.
Kevin Durant (USA)
- Durant took home his fourth Olympic gold medal with team USA as the next part of his decorated career. A two-time NBA Champion and a 14-time All-Star, Durant’s No. 35 is retired at Texas after his first-team All-America and unanimous player of the year campaign in 2006-2007.
Silver
Carson Foster, Luke Hobson, Drew Kibler (USA)
- Foster and Hobson are currently enrolled at UT whereas Kibler graduated in 2022. The three Longhorns teamed up to win silver in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay July 30th.
Leo Neugebauer (Germany)
- A national champion in both the decathlon and the heptathlon during his collegiate career, Neugebauer completed his economics degree earlier this year before cementing himself amongst the world’s greatest athletes August 3rd, winning silver in the Olympic decathlon.
Julien Alfred, women’s 200m dash (USA)
Erin Gemmell, women’s 4x200m freestyle relay (USA)
- Currently a freshman at Texas, Gemmell teamed up with Katie Ledecky, Paige Madden, and Claire Weinstein to win silver in the 4x200m freestyle at just 19 years old.
Chiaka Ogbogu, women’s indoor volleyball (USA)
- Ogbogu earned her second medal with a silver in indoor volleyball at the Paris games to go along with her gold from Tokyo. Ogbogu is the first Longhorn to earn two Olympic volleyball medals.

Caspar Corbeau (Netherlands)
Carson Foster, men’s 400m individual medley
Luke Hobson, men’s 200m freestyle
