Card, who entered the 2022 season as the backup to Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers, made his third career start versus UTSA. He finds himself as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback once again after Ewers suffered an injury versus Alabama that could keep him out of several games.

Though he is under center to start Texas’ third game of the year, Card is not 100 percent himself. He was described on Monday by Sarkisian as ‘day-to-day’ after noticeably favoring his ankle during UT’s 20-19 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

He finished the game with Alabama 14-of-22 passing for 158 yards, and put the Longhorns in a position to upset the nation’s No. 1 team in relief of Ewers.

“You never know when your number is going to be called,” Card said following the Alabama game. “Just going throughout each week, you want to prepare like you’re the starter because, like this, you never know. I was just trying to do everything I could to help the team.

For his career, Card is 70-of-113 for 777 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. He also has one rushing touchdown in the ground.
