Of the On3 Industry Ranking five-stars visiting Texas this weekend, who is the most important?

Eric Nahlin – Though Dominick McKinley is a terrific prospect at a position of need, the answer is Colin Simmons and it’s not close. Simmons should play early and become the predominant Buck by Year 2 in the program. Along with his obvious talent, Texas needs to not only lock down the state’s borders but also set up a perimeter around Duncanville.

Justin Wells – Colin Simmons. The No. 1 player in Texas returns to Austin. Texas has recruited every position at a high level with Steve Sarkisian expect EDGE. Simmons is muy importante for Texas’ 2024 class.

Gerry Hamilton – Colin Simmons. The true “must get” recruit in the cycle for Texas. Simmons can be the missing piece on defense for Texas headed into the SEC in 2024. Simmons will play in the SEC.

Bobby Burton – I think they’d all look good in Burnt Orange. I’ll say Kobe Black, and I know that’s unconventional. I just like his game A LOT.

Of the group of prospects NOT ranked as five-stars, who is the most important

Eric NahlinJayden Jackson. I almost went with Terrance Hibbler but I love Jackson’s play strength and mobility for a likely nose tackle but also someone who can play down to three-technique. Texas needs some guys who can contribute early and I think because of his power and heavy hands Jackson fits the bill.

Justin Wells – Corian Gipson. Can’t have too many versatile defensive backs.

Gerry Hamilton – Jayden Jackson because he’s at a position of need and can be a force over the ball. This isn’t a ‘three-star recruitment’ with Texas, Ohio State, Miami and Florida battling it out.

Bobby Burton – I think there are quite a few but if I had to pick one, it’d be either Zina Umeozulu or Alex January. Part of recruiting is closing the deal on guys you lead for. Texas needs to get to the finish line for both of those defensive players. I’ll say Umeozulu because he’s an EDGE but Texas needs DTs like January just as well.
