Texas baseball set to play two in Corpus Christi
After sweeping the Rice Owls during the opening weekend of the 2022 season, the No. 1 Texas Longhorns head to Corpus Christi for a two-game midweek set with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. During the 2021 season, Texas swept A&M-CC in a pair of midweek games.
However, the last time the Longhorns ventured to Whataburger Field in 2019, the Islanders topped Texas 8-2 during the midst of a dismal stretch where the Longhorns ended the season losing 12 of the last 15 games.
Pierce is looking to RHP Andre Duplantier and LHP Lucas Gordon on the mound to help the Longhorns leave South Texas with victories in both games.
Viewing options for the two games can be found here. Tuesday’s game has a first-pitch time of 6:35 p.m., while Wednesday’s matchup gets started at 4:05 p.m.
Texas is ranked No. 1 in all five major college baseball polls.
Rori Harmon named Big 12’s freshman of the week
For the fourth time this season, Texas guard Rori Harmon was named the freshman of the week in the Big 12 Conference. Harmon, a guard from Houston (Texas) Cy-Creek, scored 20 points in a win on February 16 over Iowa State and 19 points on Saturday in Morgantown, W. Va. against the Mountaineers. Her fourth weekly league honor is the most among Big 12 freshmen.
During the two games that helped her achieve the conference honor, Harmon shot a combined 15-for-27, pulled down 14 boards, and added 16 assists in the two victories for the No. 11 Longhorns.
The Longhorns are on a four-game winning streak and have four games left on the schedule: at Kansas State, versus TCU, at Kansas, and versus Oklahoma State.
Tip time for Wednesday’s game versus K-State is at 6:30 p.m. It will be aired on ESPN+.
Nearing the end for the Erwin Center
Only two more men’s basketball games and two more women’s basketball games remain for the Longhorns in the Frank Erwin Center. The building, which opened in 1977, is set to be replaced by the Moody Center in time for the 2022-23 season.
