Longhorns fall to College of Charleston, 8-4
No. 2 Texas dropped its third-straight game in the Palmetto State on Tuesday when the College of Charleston Cougars jumped on the Longhorns early, prevailing 8-4.
Andre Duplantier received the start and lasted just 1.0 inning. He allowed five earned runs on four hits, including a grand slam and a solo home run allowed in the bottom of the first. Justin Eckhardt pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on four hits and striking out three.
Texas got four runs back in the third and fourth innings to cut CofC’s lead to two. Ivan Melendez scored one with a single and Murphy Stehly brought in two with a base hit in the third. Trey Faltine hit a solo home run in the fourth.

The Cougars added runs in the fifth and sixth innings off of reliever Luke Harrison on base hits. Marcus Olivarez pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Longhorns.
Longhorn starters Douglas Hodo III and Peyton Powell were both 0-for-3. UT recorded 12 hits but left 12 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the final two innings. Texas also left two runners on in the first and third innings.
Texas completes its South Carolina spring break trip with a game versus The Citadel on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
