Isaiah Neyor: Margin Hooks breaks down the new Texas WR
When transfer wide receiver Isaiah Neyor flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Texas, the Longhorn program instantly got better.
That’s because the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder originally from Arlington (Texas) Lamar brings a legitimate weapon opposite star freshman Xavier Worthy with NFL draft pick upside.
More important than Inside Texas breaking down Neyor as a wide receiver is what Margin Hooks has seen after a few workouts.
What is Texas getting in Neyor
“Of the kids that I have trained that are older, he’s more like a Nicholas Anderson but faster,” Hooks told On3 Saturday. “Think about that. He’s deceptive. He’s quick and can run. What people don’t know about him is his confidence and his mindset. He’s always asking for certain drills, or things to work on. He called me this morning asking about drills, or coming to work out with me in Waco. He has that mindset. He’s quick, agile, can go up and get the ball in the red zone. He’s going to be a red zone threat.”
Hooks has been diligently working with Neyor on a key aspect of route running.
“The thing is I’ve been working with him on is butt down, and shoulders down,” Hooks said. ”He has a natural arch in his back. Working on coming out of breaks with the butt down and shoulders down. We are also shortening his stride, so he can control and pace his routes. He’s a long strider. Working on two or three releases for his size that he can use.”

Hooks sees a very good fit and future success at Texas under Steve Sarkisian.
“I think he fits well with Xavier Worthy,” Hooks said. ”They can both feed off of one another. I think Sarkisian is the type of play caller that can get the best out of both of them. It wouldn’t shock me if both end on All-Big 12 lists.”
In his first season at Wyoming, Neyor did not make much noise, finishing with eight receptions for 248 yards as a freshman. He ascended to All-Mountain West Conference honors in his second season after hauling in 48 passes for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games.
Neyor shined throughout the second half of the 2021 season. In Wyoming’s final six games, the star receiver caught 24 passes for 533 yards and eight touchdowns. Neyor had a touchdown in each of the final six contests.
Isaiah Neyor originally chose Tennessee over teams like USC, Baylor, TCU, Texas and Florida earlier this month, but after visiting with the Longhorns he changed his mind.
